UNESCO invites Member States, in consultation with their National Commissions, and non-governmental, international and regional professional organizations working in the field of press freedom, to nominate candidates for the forthcoming UNESCO / Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize
Monday 4 November 2019 ((rezonodwes.com)) – Established in 1997 by UNESCO's Executive Board, the World Prize for Freedom of the Press The press is intended to distinguish a person, organization or institution that has made a significant contribution to the defense and / or promotion of freedom of the press anywhere in the world, especially if for that reason it has took risks.
The $ 25,000 prize is awarded annually at an official ceremony on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day conference on May 3rd. In 2020, the Prize should exceptionally be awarded on April 23.
World Press Freedom Day 2020 will be held in The Hague, Netherlands, from April 22 to 24, 2020.  The Prize is funded by the Cano Foundations (Colombia) and Helsingin Sanomat (Finland).
