Tuesday, November 13, 2018 ((rezonodwes.com)) – Historian Marcus GARVEY wrote “A people who does not know its past, its origins and its culture looks like a tree without roots “. With this warning, the ARC association understood the need to convey the scope and spirit of the glorious victory of the Battle of Vertières which resulted in this precious wealth that we currently enjoy: “freedom”. If until today, the word “VERTIERES” is not figured in any French dictionary, the association ARC strives to expose the vision, the courage, the sacrifice and especially the judicious results which characterize the great event of the November 18, 1803.
The argument goes beyond the mere idea of seeing the term “Vertières” black on white in French dictionaries; the ARC association demands that the truth be established on all aspects of the question. If France is today a nation promoting freedom, peace, equity; it must show that it deserves its seat in the concert of modern nations by shedding light on the independence won by Haiti and which is the result of the battle of 18 November 1803. The subject must be debated objectively, in enlightened and responsible people between the leaders of the two nations so that the injustice caused to this historic people consisting of the payment of the debt of independence, imposed by Charles X in 1825, be repaired.
Since the year 2013, the association ARC brings together schools, young people, intellectuals of the country, especially those of the municipalities of Leogane and Gressier around the phenomenon “Vertières” retained in the history of the civilized world as one of the founding acts of ” Human Rights and Citizen “. This “impossible” initiative, marked by effective strategies and rigorous planning of our ancestors, is characterized by unprecedented leadership, valor and bravery. “Freedom or Death” was never an obvious arbitration, even in this context of continued abuse, frustration, humiliation and insult, especially when it was known that the “Negroes” did not have dominant strategy against the powerful army of Rochambeau. Some historians, political figures and Haitian and foreign leaders recognize the magnitude and depth of such a victory. The influential politician of France, Christianne Taubira, draws its reverence and is inspired by it to produce mature reflections and to lead its own struggles against social injustices.
In a speech delivered in 2011, the former president from Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, paid a heartfelt tribute to our ancestors by declaring: “Haiti is an angelic people! The most eminent general Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated there. ” His successor, Nicolas Maduro, was in the same vein, on the occasion of our 214 e anniversary of independence, to argue that Haiti is the first black people to have said no to inhumane practices and criminals of slavery. Yet our Haitian leaders, our schools, our students, our society do not show understanding of this eminent act of divorce from slavery. It is in this perspective to raise the debate, to sensitize the young people, the schools, the society in general on this phenomenon that the association CRA undertakes the initiative Festivertières.
This project consists in exposing to the society the sense this glorious victory through screenings and panel discussions that will be animated by personalities versed in the histories and the justice system of our country. On the outskirts, other fun and recreational activities such as football, basketball, drawing and brain games will also be on the menu. As usual, many schools, many young people are already motivated to be imbibed in the topics to be presented by the honorable presenters, Judge Mimose Janvier, Professor David Alexandre and Dr. Yves Boissonniere.
Results and expected effects of the FestiVertières project
The FestiVertières initiative is available at different times. Initially, research and reflection will be conducted by the association's executives and articles will be produced and published in the press as well as presentations will be made in radio and television stations in the capital and the city. of Anacaona in order to sensitize the citizens, the young people, the leaders on this fundamental question which shapes our identity.
In the days of the event FestiVertières in itself, many activities, conferences-debates, sports competitions, and games will be organized on site with schools and young people. But in a third step, ie after the date (s) of the event, syntheses on the reflections and the conferences-debates as well as information relating to the course of the activities will be produced and shared with the public, in particular through the press. This initiative, which is part of a pipeline of projects of the association, pursues among others the objectives of discovering and exploring many talents (writers, artists, speakers, …) among young people, and to promote community development and humanitarian action
At the end of the FestiVertières project, the ARC association expects the following effects and results:
The young people are aware of this inestimable wealth bequeathed by our heroes of independence;  The battle of Vertières as well as the hidden stories of this battle are understood by the young / pupils;
The young / pupils are aware of the necessity of the restitution of the debt of the independence;
The young people are prone to expressing pride in being Haitians in their own right.
Secondary school leaders are conscious of incorporating into their curricula history of the country.
Youth / students show greater interest in reading, research and learning;
Young people find reasons and inspiration to better address the future.
At this stage, with unstable, decapitalized young people who are losing their bearings, who leave and return without a penny from Chile, Brazil or who have experienced other setbacks in other neighboring countries, we need leaders, leaders to the height to stop this hemorrhage that accelerates the asthenia of the country. Haiti needs to discover other Capois-La-Mort, Toussaint Louverture, Jean Jaques Dessalines to better position itself on the international scene while raising the issues and interests that fall under the right.
Both to frame the young people, to prepare them to keep hope, to recognize their value and the value of their country, this is the vision of the ARC association in this noble project and many others to which it would like to solicit the support of interested partners to work for a competitive, fulfilled and happy youth.
