Sunday, November 3, 2019 ((rezonodwes.com)) – This is the theme of the communication campaign dedicated to the celebration of the 20th e Anniversary of IDEA NL (International Debate Education Association in the Netherlands) Bas), an international partner of FOKAL for several years. This celebration, at which FOKAL and 18 other IDEA member countries in Europe are taking part, will be held in the European Parliament, Brussels, Belgium, from November 8 to 12.
This IDEA campaign is a content-driven action having the following objectives: to claim the importance of education through debate in formal and non-formal education; explain the impact of education on the debate over the last 20 years with the case of Central and Eastern Europe based on an impact study carried out in 8 countries; to further motivate the authorities, NGOs, donors, teachers and youth workers to cooperate further and in the future, with IDEA and its member associations
FOKAL is invited to actively participate in all activities of the communication until the celebration in Brussels. Jean-Gérard Anis, the coordinator of the Youth Initiative Program, will represent the foundation. Nevertheless, our effective participation had already begun with the launching in Haiti of the IDEA international essay contest around the subject: “ The debate changed my life “, in which a dozen or so debaters took part.
Next, FOKAL proposed, at the request of IDEA, a former debater, who symbolized a 1945-9012 success story of his national debate program. The foundation chose Berline Jean-Pierre BEAUVAIS, 27 years old, debater from 2007 to 2011 of the Cote-Plage club. She is a lawyer and a member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the Organization of American States. It is the subject of a post presentation, and the foundation, on Facebook.
On this occasion, the ambassador of Haiti in Belgium, Ms. Marie Guerlyne January, received an official invitation from IDEA to to take part in a round table on the theme “ From Education to Youth Engagement Debate “, presented by Italian MEP Brando Benifei in the European Parliament on 11 November 2019. This event is planned to close the campaign by bringing together senior officials, policymakers, IDEA members and youth around the same table to discuss and witness the impact of education through the debate on youth empowerment. The roundtable is part of the series of events organized by IDEA in Brussels, which also includes capacity development days, co-creation workshops and master classes organized by champion debaters European and world nations, and an important assembly with all member associations to reflect together on the organization's future prospects in endorsing certain related decisions.
Education in debate empowers young people in development of their skills in the 21st century, puts them in touch with each other and with their society, and inspires them to act, removing alienation and powerlessness that gives the impression of being ignored. It is this mission and these objectives that FOKAL has also given itself in developing the program of debate in Haiti.
For 23 years, the program has proved its worth as a tool for learning democracy, citizenship , conflict resolution, tolerance, respect for others, and the handling of philosophical concepts related to argumentation and reasoning
