Friday January 17, 2020 ((rezonodwes.com)) – Songwriter, rapper-slammer BIC (true Roosevelt Saillant), is a singer with texts. He is a songwriter who handles the art of rhyme with talent, navigating both poetic melodies and angry rhythms to deliver a successful synthesis between rap and folk. The one who intended for a career as an interpreter and who taught English in different schools in Port-au-Prince, is a word juggler who approaches Haitian Creole as an inexhaustible vein. A recognized lyricist, his texts are now studied in Haitian universities.
Coming to music via hip hop, he made his stage debut in 2000 with the group Flex. He then founded, with his compatriot John Mogene, the group BIC (for Brain-Intelligence-Creativity), with which he produced two albums: Wow (2005) and Plus loin (2008). In 2010, he began a solo career keeping the name of BIC and created his label “Tizon Dife Recordz”.
Two albums will follow: Kreyòl sings, Kreyòl konprann – vol. 1 (2010) then Kreyòl sings, Kreyòl konprann – vol. 2 subtitled Nou Byen mal (2012). His songs deal with social problems in a realistic and optimistic way, with the aim of bringing positive messages through poetry. In nearly fifteen years of career, BIC has established itself as one of the Indispensable artists of the Haitian music scene, performing regularly on stages in North America. The poet also knows how to be a committed artist. BIC puts its music at the service of its country and multiplies actions as a Goodwill Ambassador: of the Haitian Basketball Federation (since 2006), SPEDH (Social Support for Poor Children of Haiti) and CERFAS (Center for Research, Reflection, Training and Social Action) since 2010, and finally La Francophonie in Haiti (alongside his compatriots BelO and Jean-Jean Roosevelt with whom he participates in the Francophone Caravan), since 2012 .
2014 winner of the Visas program for the creation of the French Institute, BIC is in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris for three months, during which he finalized his fifth album “Recto-Verso”. He participated in the “Haiti another look” tour in September and October 2014 in Belgium. BIC participated in the 2014 and 2015 editions of the MaMA festival where he met artists and producers who will be useful to him for the rest of his career.
In October 2015, he performed in concert in Armenia as part of the 31st Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie. BIC intervened to share its experience with the young Armenians of school 48 which is one of the rare French-speaking schools in Armenia.
Also in October 2015, it was designated by the organization Handicap International as his spokesperson in Haiti, in particular for a promotion for road safety.
In 2016, BIC released his album VOKABI – LARI and after a national tour, he opened for Septentrional, in Montreal, Canada.
In 2017, during a project initiated by MIT (Massachussets Institute of Technology), one of the largest American universities, BIC intervenes on the link that can be woven with music and poetry before performing in Boston, then on the stage of the WOMAAF (World Music African Art Festival) in Tangier at Morocco.
Since October 2017, BIC is officially Ambassador Handicap International for a major road safety awareness campaign.
In 2019, after sharing the stage with Youssoupha, BIC released its album “BICsyonè”. This album “BICsyonè” is a plea for a more just Haitian society by exposing the flaws that often go unnoticed. It is also above all a warning signal to rekindle the flame capable of restoring hope in a Haiti with an environment conducive to the development of young people always in search of landmarks, both in terms of dissemination of musical works of good bill in the media that benefits in worldly activities
