The captain leads the ship to disaster. Some lieutenants abandoned the ship before its sinking, which would not be long in coming. The regime of Jovenel Moïse, whose economic, political and social results look more than ever like an inextricable feud, wants war . Has a “Jovenélien” war front just opened up within the PHTK party which is absorbed by the idea of putting all the country's institutions under its control? That wouldn't change the situation.
That being said, wanting and being able are two distinctly different things, and, in these troubled times at PHTK, Jovenel Moïse's bet is likely to fall apart . In fact, for several weeks, resignations as well as serial dismissals have been recorded within the team Tèt Kale . The latest are those of Max Attis, Minister of Sports, resigned Thursday, July 16, and Me Reynold Georges, political and legal adviser to the President of the Republic, who left office 24 hours after Mr. Attis.
Less than a week after the end of his tour of sports infrastructures throughout the national territory, Max Attis, Minister of Youth and Sports, submitted, on Thursday July 16, 2020, his letter of resignation to the Prime Minister and informed President Jovenel Moïse of his decision.
This resignation comes after Minister Attis had uttered the following denunciations, without detours or jokes, at a press conference. “What we found as sports facilities is insignificant. Many parks and sports centers, which have cost large sums, do not meet our needs in this area and do not promote the rational practice of sport, ”revealed the minister, adding that he noted that“ several of these infrastructures are in poor condition or remain unfinished, even though funds have been disbursed. It’s unacceptable that the state has spent hundreds of millions (PetroCaribe funds) and, in the end, we don’t even have a proper sports field. Money from the state, which was supposed to build sports centers across the country, was embezzled. I think that public action must be set in motion, ”implicating the Government Martelly-Lamothe and the contracted firms, both in Haiti and the Dominican Republic…
Minister Attis in his letter of resignation dated July 16 wrote the following.
“Dear Prime Minister,
I have the honor to present my compliments to you, and take this opportunity to thank you for having, in tune with the President of the Republic, call on me to accompany you in your delicate mission, in the service of the State. Mr. Prime Minister, I have endeavored to meet my responsibility by ensuring, in my functions as in my personal behavior, to always respect the requirements and the guidelines set by your Government. Indeed, I would like to bring to your attention that I have a very high idea of the politics and the use to be made of them to lead this country, at last, to better horizons. And I, steeped in these ideals that define me, I cannot give up, believing, at the height of my being, that the poison of the country is not in my approaches. Although I felt that I had not committed any breach, I decided to leave my post as Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action. ”
According to some information, after the minister's statements , many are the dignitaries of the Haitian party Tèt Kale (PHTK) who wished for his dismissal.
In the same vein, the Advisor for Legal and Political Affairs of the President of the Republic, Me Reynold Georges, left his post at the National Palace on Friday July 17, 2020. In his resignation letter addressed to the President of the Republic, Jovenel Moïse, Me Reynold Georges, a fierce defender of power, expressed his regret at realizing that politics currently followed by the power in place is not in line with his ideal and his convictions.
Further, in his remarks, the former senator believes that the time has come to pack up, because his advice is no longer solicited nor followed . “My determination to assist and serve you was real, but my loyalty remains above all to the Haitian people and to the Constitution,” continued the lawyer. Me Reynold Georges was one of the great defenders of power in the media, especially on the debate around the end of the term of the President of the Republic. Recent statements he made suggested that the G-9 group would be in cahoots with the ruling power.
Senator from Artibonite, Gracia Delva, a blind supporter of PHTK, said Jovenel Moïse failed, that he did not keep any of his promises to the people. He called on the people to rise up against the ruling power.
