10th commemoration of the earthquake in Haiti – $ 50,000 to support youth initiatives of the Haitian diaspora
Sunday January 12, 2020 ((rezonodwes.com)) – The Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie, M me Nadine Girault, was present at the 10 th commemoration of the earthquake in Haiti, organized by the Maison d'Haïti in Montreal in tribute to the victims of this disaster. Minister Girault reiterated all the ties of friendship that unite the people of Quebec and the Haitian community, also a partner in the Francophonie. She wished first to pay tribute to all the disappeared and to express all the compassion of the Government of Quebec to all those who have suffered difficult tomorrows, consequences that are always heavy to bear in our hearts.
Recalling that it is important to demonstrate flawless solidarity with the Haitian people, the Minister recalled the Quebec government's solidarity actions towards Haiti and welcomed the actions supported by various organizations of the Haitian diaspora, especially those of the House of Haiti.
The Haitian solution will come from the new generation
Recalling that young people are the hope of Haiti as to the challenges that the country has to meet , the Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie took the opportunity to commit to Haitian youth. It is looking for a better world. For the occasion, the Government of Quebec has announced in its new International Vision that specific funds will support the action of diasporas in Quebec. The Minister announced that $ 50,000 would be paid to support youth activities in the Haitian diaspora in the context of the 10 th anniversary of this commemoration. In addition, an additional $ 12,000 will also come to support the House of Haiti.
“I remember that day when time stood still, there as well as here. Quebecers were deeply touched by this tragedy, the ties of friendship that unite Quebec and this Caribbean land are so strong, but certainly also because the pain affected us straight to the heart, at home.
