If the Lord is with us, why have all these things happened to us? This is the theme of reflection of the preaching delivered by the Reverend-Pastor Joel LALOI
Sunday 1st December 2019 ((rezonodwes.com)) – On this first Sunday of the last month of the year 2019, at the Baptist Church of the Tabernacle of Port-au-Prince located at number 180 of the Avenue Christophe was held a cult of adoration including the Holy Scene commonly called the Fraternal Communion with the evangelical Christians who exalted the name of the living GOD by hymns and prayers and then by traditional offerings.
For this Sunday, it is to the Pastor Holder of said Church who is a Doctor in Theology, Pastor Joel LALOI that the Almighty GOD entrusted his preaching to His people around a question of reflection: If Jehovah is with us, why did all these things come to us?
The reference text is found in the Book of Judges 6: 11-14 which is reads as follows: [1 9459008] 11 Then came the angel of the LORD, and sat under the oak of Ophrah, which belonged to Joash, of the family of Abiezer. Gideon, his son, was beating wheat in the winepress to protect him from Madian. 12 The angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, The LORD is with you, valiant hero! 13 Gideon said to him: Ah! My lord, if Jehovah is with us, why have all these things come to us? And where are all these wonders which our fathers tell us, when they say, Did not the LORD bring us up out of Egypt? Now the LORD is leaving us, and he is delivering us into the hands of Midian!
14 The LORD turned to him, and said, Go with that strength that you have, and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian; Is it not I who sends you?
Indeed, at the last youth conference of this Church, the theme was: “ Young, go with that strength that you have “and we focused on a part of the story of Gideon that we find in Judges. For today, the focus will be on the second part which is a reflection that Gideon had made.
This story tells us how GOD used Gideon to free the people of Israel who were under oppression from Madian. It should be noted that the Lord had delivered the Israelis because of their disobedience. That's why Gideon knew the answer to his questioning. For in the first verse of Judges 6, which reads: “ The children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian for seven years “. And in Judges 10:10 we read, The children of Israel cried to the LORD, saying, We have sinned against you, because we have forsaken our God, and served the Baals.
Likewise Haitian Christians today are asking themselves the same question of reflection by saying: If Jehovah is with us, why have all these things happened to us? Haitian Christians make this reflection in the manner of Gideon in relation to all these difficulties and disruptions that upset Haiti. From 1986 to the present, our country is falling back and we have the impression that we are really at the point of the abyss where we are in the abyss.
Some even manage to declare that: “nou pa menm bezwen prere levanjil ankò “. However, we must know that the Lord is with us according to Psalms 46, Psalms 91 and Romans 8:31. So, we do not need to lose our belief in GOD. The Lord is truly with us
Why did all these things happen to us? In the case of people Israel, Gideon had the answer. Unfortunately, in the case of Haiti, we do not have the answer to this question. This is why it is important to stimulate reflection compared to that of Gideon. Let's guess why all these things happened to us? For that, three (3) elements of reflections are to be considered:
First element of reflection : Haiti is she a country accursed? Some foreigners have claimed that this country is cursed and there would be Haitians who believe it based on the history of Bois Caiman. However, according to Haitian experts, this thesis is false in explaining precisely that the Independence of Haiti is the result of a collective awareness of the slaves who rose up against the settlers and had fought hard to establish freedom on this earth. On the other hand, other Haitians practice flogging by trying to condemn themselves and we come to say that there would be an irreversible situation.
Mezanmi, Haiti is suffering its evil. Men, eske sél Haiti ki konn fè evil. Eske pa gen lol peyi ki konn fè bad? Poukisa pa gen lòt peyi ki modi tou? In this case, Haiti is not a cursed country.
Second Element of Reflection : Are Our Prayers Insufficient? Haitians are one of the people who pray a lot and daily. We are young, we are a night fife, we are all kalite priyè. We need to pray and we prayed a lot. However, we can deduce that the problem is posed in attitude and behavior. More than one saying that prayer is the key to everything. It's wrong. For prayer alone can not open all doors. For example, 1) if you are sick and you do not take the medication and you do not follow the principles and instructions, it will be death or it will be a catastrophic situation; 2) If you are a student and do not do your homework and lessons, you will not succeed. However, if you pray and you take up your responsibilities, it will be success in all that you will have to undertake.
Gen yen anpil priyè is born. Men, priyè sa yo pa bank delivered Haiti. We are missing something.
Third Element of Reflection : Have we made a civic commitment? Are we involved in the affairs of our country? We must know that Christians are also victims of the situation and the socio-political crisis of our country. Anpil kretyen mouri, anpil kretyen pesekite, anpil kretyen gen pitit ki pa ka ale lekòl. Kretyen suffers from all things peyi a. So, we must ask ourselves: Do you want to know something about this? Bagay ke nou pa fè? Nou menm kretyen, kite yo vote for us; kite yo ba nou nepota ki dirijan. Nou pa menm vle ranpli devwa sivik nou. Anpil nan nou pa pa yen kat electoral. Nan ka sa, yap chwazi for us. We have a mentality that does not encourage us to get involved in the affairs of our country. Nou toujou ap sings yon move kantik ki di konsa: The world goes by lakay mwen, se nan syèl mwen prale . It's really wrong because the world is our home. We are konnen ke lemond, lakay nou jiskaske nou mouri or jiskaske Jesus Christ retounen. We deceive ourselves by saying that lemond is pa lakay mwen. So, know that the world is our home. We are called to spend a lot of time in the world. That is why we are obliged to get involved in the affairs of our country.
So, my brothers and sisters, our country is not cursed. We prayed a lot. However, we are missing something. The Lord is truly with us. We must realize that we do not have a civic commitment.
Eske gen yon bagay ke nou te dwe fe ke ke pa pa
May the Lord Bless You!
