By a memorandum dated October 7, 2019, the President of the Court of Cassation of the Republic, Mr. René Sylvestre, announced the official resumption of judicial activities for the year 2019-2020.
“Acting in his legal and constitutional attributions as head of the judiciary, he solemnly declares on Monday, October 7, 2019, the resumption of judicial activities in all courts and courts throughout the national territory in accordance with the wish of Article 75 of the decree of August 22, 1995 relating to the judicial organization dedicating the first Monday of October “, one reads in this memorandum.
Reacting on the not holding of the official ceremony of resumption of the judicial activities, the Judge Wando Sainvilier of the Professional Association of Magistrates states that nowhere is this traditional ceremony mentioned. “The deleterious climate of the country does not allow to ask the Judges, Lawyers and other professionals of the Justice to risk for the holding of such a ceremony”, supports the Magistrate currently Dean of the Court of First Instance of Jacmel.
Judge Wilner Morin of the National Association of Haitian Magistrates (ANAMAH) argues for better treatment for Magistrates. According to Magistrate Jean Wilner Morin, ten (10) years ago the Magistrates' salary remains the same. “The judicial year was the worst year for the system with the closure of several courts,” says Morin.
Note that the political opposition had launched a slogan for an anti-Jovenel demonstration by the Court of Cassation of the Republic
