Wednesday, December 4, 2019 ((rezonodwes.com)) – This work is the result of the investigation: “Jijman tribute ghetto nan kad limyè sou pwojè Konbit Bibliyotek Site Solèy_ KBSS”. It was created by social engineer Steeve Colin, social activist for 19 years, founder of the structure called “Humanist Intervention”, a social organization that fights against violence in communities. (P.2)
This is the result of 23 months of active research, carried out assiduously in the community. No public, private or international institution has funded this work, which does not seek to destroy anything, but rather aims to shed some light that should lead us towards the construction of the path of social and collective change, in order to achieve the sustainable development of morality and the dignity of the people
“Jijman Tribinal Ghetto” represents the symbolic place of historical awareness of leaders working for the good functioning of communities. It is the space that allows the population to learn, to understand the implementation of any project, which must be executed with the close participation and involvement of all. It is also the place where priority is given to the collective interests and not the petty interests of community leaders. (P.3 and P.32)
What about the project “konbit Bibliyotèk Site Solèy”?
The idea of setting up a community library at Cité Soleil is commendable. It is an initiative that aims to serve a community, a ghetto characterized by difficult socio-economic conditions undermining the practices of living together. After the Jijman Tribinal Ghetto survey, we found that the Konbit Bibliyotèk Site Solèy_KBSS project model is one of the best project models linking participation and connectivity of the region's resources. Caraibe, or even all of America.
This is a great opportunity that will reinforce the positive image of Cité de Soleil, a town that has always been a victim of social indifference, bad perception and stigma from the very beginning. It's not a perfect project. It is, in fact, on this basis that we propose a sustained analysis of the project, by addressing the strengths and weaknesses, the risks and the opportunities it lags behind it.
We can not speak of a community project, in the full 21st century, without measuring the socio-economic impacts on the beneficiary population. Everyone, of all social categories, must be taken into account. Nothing can escape us. Everything must take into account children who are growing up and who have a future set before them. As part of this project, we find that young people seem to have a lot of fun, are carried away by their emotions, they have not managed to release an awareness about the major dangers that the project may harbor for the future of the young. new generations, which will have to replace the actors who are on the scene at the moment.
Beyond our natural love and our vision for the community, we use a scientific and methodological foundation, to approach the project “Konbit Bibliyotèk Site Solèy_KBSS “, through an informal survey, within the Ghettos, as a tool of defense, advocacy or search for opportunities for the community that swims in poverty.
This survey aims to uncover some handicaps that weaken the project. The work seeks above all to draw the attention of actors and decision-makers to the need to consider all the parameters in order to prevent the project from producing any real results, capable of influencing or transforming the way of life of this population. Consider the social aspect that is not taken into account in the debate initiated by the decision makers who gave birth to the project “Konbit Bibliyotèk Site Solèy_KBSS”, apart from principles relating to social justice.
We note these points:
1- Not taken into account spiritual, social, economic, political and environmental values (Pp.37-50)
2- Non-respect of proposals going into the the sense of inclusion of young people who could benefit from it, or who could use it with serenity as a space for leisure and writing, without having to fear anyone in the community. (Pp.25-28)
3- Non-compliance with legal procedures in the framework of the state authorization to build the space of “Konbit Bibliyotèk Site Solèy_ KBSS”, in particular on the “Plas fyète”, being a domain of the Haitian state. No one in the community, including the authorities, has a written legal document as part of this project, while measuring the indicators and expected results. (P.29)
4- The socio-economic impacts of the project are unpredictable. Nothing is reassuring. It is built on a vacuum, randomly. (P.32, 32, 42, 49, 50)
5- The formula hiding the idea of development of this project can extend as follows: Diversion + distraction = destruction social. D + D = DS. (P.62, 72)
6- It is important to ask why all the opportunities offered to this country end up disappointing us. (P.63)
7- Cité Soleil, is it the richest community in all of America? (P.24, 42)
After 19 years of experience and pride in the community, it is necessary and obligatory to share this work, with honor, as a historical memory for humanity, for the commune of Cité Soleil. Future generations could use it unlike this present generation blinded by emotion.
Future generations will be able to defend the methodological and scientific scope of the struggle for the defense of the weakest social classes, by taking the path of participatory and sustainable development. These people will be able to use the data that we have collected as part of the 3rd version of the “Jijman Tribinal Ghetto” survey, regarding the project “Konbit Bibliyotèk Site Solèy_KBSS”.
This survey can be a historic opportunity to defend value systems in communities. This could pave the way for other Ghetto around the world, reflecting their own realities, while striving for the participation and involvement of all, for the benefit of the community. With this method, we will have better results in the projects that will have been carried out in the communities.
