iciHaiti – Tourism: Projects to revitalize the tourism sector
Myriam Jean, the Minister of Tourism participated in a videoconference, at the initiative of the secretariat of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This virtual meeting was an opportunity for the members of the UNWTO Commission for the Americas to discuss and exchange views on the Impact of the Covld-19 on the tourism sector and on the main recommendations for its recovery process.
After the communication from the President of the Commission Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism of Jamaica and the presentation of the initiatives and activities of the UNWTO in response to Covid-19 by Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the UNWTO and Alejandro Varela, Regional Director deputy for the Americas , and ministers' interventions on policies to combat Covid-19, two major projects were submitted to the participants for their appreciation. These are the IDB Lab / UNWTO project entitled “Beyond Tourism, the Challenge of Innovation” and the joint project “Green Investments for Sustainable Tourism” of the International Finance Corporation (member of the World Bank) and UNWTO.
These projects launched by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) aim to meet an innovation challenge to revitalize the tourism sector in 15 countries including Haiti. Successful projects can receive up to US $ 500,000 in non-repayable funds and up to US $ 2 million in loans. Applicants must contribute with at least 50% of the total project budget.
