Haiti – FLASH : Chile launches its free voluntary return plan to Haiti
Wednesday, nearly 6 months after the imposition of a Chilean tourist visa to Haitians http://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24055-haiti-flash-chile-requires-a-visa-for-haitians.html the Chilean Government launched its “Humanitarian Plan for Orderly Return” http://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25395-haiti-flash-chile-announces-voluntary-return-plan-for-haitians.html .
This humanitarian plan is intended for the voluntary return of Haitians living today in Chile, who have failed to settle in this country, because they can not master the language, get used to the climate or find a job, encouraged by false promises of unscrupulous individuals who promised them [against money] a future that is not like the reality, and who do not have the economic means to return to Haiti, explained at the launch, Andrés Chadwick, the Minister of the Interior.
Haitians in Chile, who wish to return to Haiti, can register since Wednesday on the website of the Department of Immigration : https://tramites.extranjeria.gob.cl/etapas/ejecutar/2984
To qualify for this program, Haitians must not have a legal situation and they must sign a notarized declaration in which they undertake not to return to Chile in the next 9 years. If migrants have a spouse, partner or children, they must complete the process jointly and travel in groups.
The government did not give an estimate of the number of Haitians who could opt for this plan, but said that initially 15 to 18 trips by plane, between Santiago and Port-au-Prince are planned [between 2,800 and 3,300 Haitians http://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25474-haiti-flash-voluntary-return-of-haitians-of-chile-by-presidential-plane.html ]
Thirty Haitians who are in the region of Araucania have initiated their request to return to Haiti at the Immigration Department of Temuco (Capital of the Region)
