1st international festival of Voodoo, the report of the special envoy of Rezo Nòdwès in Gonaives
Gonaives, Tuesday, August 13, 2019 ((rezonodwes.com)) – The first 2 days of the Festival , are indicative of an enthusiasm and commitment unmistakably shown by followers of voodoo. Despite the indifference of the authorities for the event, the organizers intend to stay the course for the rest of the Festival.
In Gonaïves, on the morning of Monday, the crowd of voodooers ran down Avenue Paul Eugène Magloire. On the horizon, the merger of colors and standards of troops prevailed. Representatives of voodoo societies, members of mystical associations, delegates of lakou were distinguished by their banners and traditional references. The voodoo fan parade, according to the established agenda, opens the festivities for the day.
'' It was planned to parade the voodooers in the streets of the City of Independence at the beginning of the ceremonies. This testifies to a significant and symbolic significance for us who seek our identity and unite dispersed souls '' judged Beken Petit-Homme, Chairman of the organizing committee.
Local authorities are lacking 'call
At the launch of the festival's activities, initiates and laymen also jostled each other in the Place d'Armes of the city, site chosen for the fall of the procession and the official representation, to take possession of a seat.
Under the eyes of the Director General of the National Bureau of Ethnology, Hérold Josué, the Director General of the Ministry of Cults, Évens Souffrant, Haitian King Vodou, Augustin Saint-Clou, members of KNVA, Mambo Vivi, from the United States of America, feasted after each chorus resumed in chorus by the audience. At the same time, flasks of florida are sprinkled in the public holding back the nostrils. The negative point is to put to the credit of the local authorities having shone by their absence.
'' The town council, programmed in the planning, shone by its absence. And, unfortunately, no other member of the council has presented himself '' laments Illionet Jacques, administrator of the festival.
To the absence of the leaders in the official part, is added the disinterest displayed by the latter to support the initiative. '' Several correspondences were sent, no follow-up was granted. The two days were made possible thanks to the contribution of some patrons '', supports Illionet Jacques .
