HT: Hi Duckenson, welcome to Haiti-Tempo. Could you introduce yourself to our general public?
DR27: Hi Haiti-Tempo! I am Duckenson Register. I evolve since 2014 in the Baltimore of Saint-Marc to the post of defender. I was born in Saint-Marc, I will turn 23 on October 1.
HT: At what age did you start football?
DR27: It was in 2008 at the age of 12 years at the Union des Jeunes (UDJ). A year later, I was in training at the Croix-des-Bouquets Ranch, which allowed me to stay in focus with the U15 selection. After the earthquake of January 12, 2010, everything was ruined and I had to go back to the UDJ
HT: Tell us a little about your career …
DR27: I started in this football school of which I just mentioned above, at the Youth Union (UDJ), located at Portal Montrouis. At that time I was a schoolboy but I was training in paralelle with a former player of Dynamite, Eder Sovereign. I was spotted then I had the chance to join the Baltimore youth team. And at the end of 2014, I was licensed to play with Team A. In 2015, I began to take a gallon. From there and time, I progressed and today I became the captain of the club.
HT: Become captain of a club with 4 titles of national champion and which counts in its ranks Peter Germain, an emblematic figure of Haitian football, are you aware of the trust placed in you?
DR27: To become captain of a club with a great history in Haiti today … well … I do not have the words for me 'Express. It makes me feel good. Being the leader of such a team, it does not happen to anyone. From the confidence of the leaders, the club management, the players, Peter Germain, all this helped me to inherit the armband. It must be said that it does not happen at random but because of my training on the team, my talent and my discipline.
HT: But this decision, the fact of choosing you as captain, Whom it comes from?
DR27: It's a decision that comes from the management. They think that during the last two seasons, I'm the one who gives the most on the field for this club. The fans are unanimous, I am the best player of the team for two years and the most disciplined. I do not want to create jealousy (laughs).
HT: All right. The second part of the season starts with so much for your club but until then the defense is waterproof. 4 games played, no goal conceded, is there any reason to explain this defensive solidity?
DR27: Since in pre-season we knew we would remain solid behind. We can say that the season starts well. After 4 days, we have not cashed yet. We made two trips. It's really huge and I'm proud of it. It is true that we have waste in attack but in defense I have a good complicity with others. With the other player (Severus Verilus) that I play in the central axis, we share the same gym and we speak on and off the field. We speak daily on the phone. Our goal is to make history. If it could happen to more than 10 games without taking a goal, let it be done for the team.
HT: Tell us, do you only play as central defender?
DR27: Early I started as a right side. But I was so good that I was used several times as a playmaker or sentinel. But I'm a central defender and that's my favorite position.
I remember once in Petit-Goâve, I was on the bench of substitutes. The Baltimore needed to score but the manager did not have much choice. And he made me come in as an attacker (laughs).
HT: Have you ever scored for the club?
DR27: Yes I scored twice. The first time was against Cavaly (2-2) and the other was decisive as Arcahaie (1-0) was defeated at Levelt Park.
HT: Left-handed or Right-handed? DR27: Droitier
HT: And what is the goal of the club for this 2nd installment of the season?
DR27: Our goal is the same as any other team, it's win the championship, but first of all we want to finish in first or second place in the standings. After we will give ourselves to play-offs to try to offer the title to Baltimore. It has been years since we did not do it. I do not yet have this trophy in my record, ditto for many other members of the team, because we have a young group.
HT: You have just registered your first victory at home since April 24th. It's really bizzare. Tell us, is there a good understanding between the players and the technical staff?
DR27: A very, very good relationship. Whether in the streets, on the field, in training or on the phone. There is no hypocrisy among us, before the start of the competition we lingered on it. We are really cool. When we have to make jokes we do it, when it comes to taking action we are serious. It's been months that we could not win at home, we are back to victory, we will try to continue this momentum.
HT: Who puts the atmosphere in the locker room? DR27: Sometimes it's me or Peter Germain. But it's still a guy called Zagallo. His name is Durand Anderson
HT: Apart from the Baltinore and your career as a footballer, do you have other activities?
DR27: Apart from football, I have other interests. I am a company supervisor although I have not started working on it yet. After, I took classes like English and computer science. You know, in Haiti you can not really bet on football. We must always learn something for tomorrow.
HT: How do you manage to reconcile all this and your sports career?
DR27: Everyone knows that I play football. There is a way to handle that. We appreciate my dedication and my wisdom because there are many players who do not go on the quest for knowledge.
HT: Many players have a model. What sport inspires you?
DR27: When I was younger, there was a Uruguayan defender named Diego Lugano. I loved him and my teammates called me Lugano. After understanding the game better, I fell in love with Thiago Silva but I do not really like his temperament.
If there is now a defender who inspires me, it is none other than Sergio Ramos . I like his technique and his character. In Haiti I choose probably Jude St. Louis.
HT: You have already been expelled?
DR27: Yes, twice.
HT: Would you have any advice to give to the young people of Saint-Marc and to Haitians in general who dream of playing football and do not dare to start?
DR27: I am already an example for young Saint-Marcois. We must respect everyone, players, leaders and supporters, train and have discipline. Believe in God and in you despite the critics, set your goals despite the obstacles!
Do not take yourself for Cristiano Ronaldo if you score a goal. Work more, 200%, to mark others.
HT: And you, what is the best advice given to you?
DR27: I was told to believe in me and to work since there were some who lived worse than me.
These people were really right because at that time I had faced a lot of problems. Some people advised me to leave but I thought if there is a place to take up a challenge it's in Baltimore.
Today I became captain of the club and it is thanks to the positive advice that I received. I have not yet reached the desired level, I dream of the highest level and represent my country.
HT: And if you are asked what is your dream?
DR27: I come to say it. It is to play abroad, in France, Spain, Italy, USA, China etc.
It is mainly to represent Haiti
I would like one day, when the writing of Haiti Tempo will have to write an article about me, that she speaks about the Haitian international.
HT: Worst and best moment in your career …
DR27: The worst memory was against the Racing Club Haitian. The match was going to be played on Sunday but on Tuesday my mother was hospitalized. I missed several training sessions. 3 days before the meeting, Alain Vubert came to talk to me. He told me if it was my place he would not play, because football requires a good mind.
I really wanted to play. Arrived on the field, I made a mistake and we scored a goal that made us lose this game.
The best time is the fact that for two years I'm the best player in Baltimore.
HT: A message for your fans, readers and Internet users of Haiti-Tempo …
DR27: We must always support the players. We really need that. Thanks to Haiti-Tempo, because you're doing a lot of work!
